Return Policy & Shipping Prices on Bookrenter and Chegg: Which is Better?

Both Chegg and Bookrenter are great textbook rental companies. You can save a significant amount of money each semester by renting your textbooks or selling them on these sites. I tried out both last year and wanted to share my experiences with their shipping and return policies.

Shipping cost

Bookrenter offers free standard shipping on all your orders, which is really nice. If you want 2-day delivery it costs $3.99 + $3.99 for each additional book. Chegg charges $3.99 for standard shipping, $9.99 2nd day air, and $15.99 for next day air. Both sites ship books promptly after you order them, and my books have always arrived within the estimated delivery dates.

Return policies

Chegg offers a great 30-day, no questions asked return guarantee. You just print out a pre-made label from the Chegg website, and UPS it back to the company at no charge, and your refund will be issued usually within a week. Bookrenter also allows you to return any book within a specified return period that varies by book, but usually seems to be around 30 days.

Customer service

The nice thing with both companies is that they have good customer service, and its easy to get a live person on the phone to help you with an order or to answer questions. A Chegg representative helped me find a version of a Chemistry book which I couldn't find on the site. Someone from Bookrenter was able to issue me a shipping refund for a book which was shipped one day late. Both sites have good service.

BookRenter is the best! They had everything I needed, and much cheaper than Chegg.

BookRenter! No question - got my books wicked-cheap and wicked quick. And they had them all. Go BookRenter!

I was pretty skeptical of the whole textbook rental thing... but honestly I saved sooo much with bookrenter.

I liked the customer service. Here a lot of samples and it is much simpler and more accessible. I recommend!
